What We Saw Every August

When we worked in schools, we dreaded August coming.  We hated to see that kids who had been making real progress in the previous school year would come back having lost much of it.

Summer was fun and a good break, but it was also ten weeks of no structure, no routine, no practice.  We spent the first month or two just getting back to where we had been in June.

Growing up, summer meant one thing; being outside playing.  We were often on our bikes from morning until dark.  My brother, our friends, and I would race down the driveway to see how far the speed would carry us up the hill across the street.

Nobody organized or planned it for us.  We came up with it on our own and we kept ourselves busy all day.

The kids who struggled going back to school didn't need summer school.  They didn't need tutoring every day.  They needed structure and activities to help keep their brains engaged.  That's exactly what this calendar provides.

Kids need some freedom in summer.  They also need enough rhythm to keep their brains from going completely offline.  This calendar gives them both.

These kids didn't need summer school.  They didn't need tutoring every day. They needed a simple rhythm that kept their brains engaged.  That's exactly what this calendar provides.

What's Inside the Calendar

Built-in screen time that doesn't derail the whole day
  • 4
How to keep learning gains from the school year from disappearing over the summer
